Dr Linda Hwang

Principal Dentist and Founder, Glow Dental

How We Approach Dentistry

From early in her career, Linda held a clear view of what dentistry should look like: treatment that is clinically indicated, planned thoroughly, and built to last. A long-term approach that considers what is best for the patient’s oral health over years and decades, not just the appointment in front of her.

Glow Dental was founded on that principle. Every recommendation made here is based on what is predictable, necessary, and genuinely in the patient’s best interest. Not what is quick, not what is convenient, and not a patch that will need redoing in two years.

Education and Training

Linda has practised dentistry for over a decade working in practices across both the North and South Islands before founding Glow Dental. Throughout her career, Linda has consistently completed continuing professional development at approximately four times the requirement set by the New Zealand Dental Council. That commitment to learning began before she even graduated. At the University of Otago, she was awarded the IADR prize as the Australian representative, an internationally recognised research award that reflects academic excellence in dentistry. It set the pattern for what followed.

Linda’s professional life has followed a deliberate cycle: practise, invest in learning, and raise the standard. In recent years, she has directed that development towards surgical and implant dentistry. Linda is currently completing a postgraduate diploma in implant dentistry through the Australian College of Dental Practitioners, building on the clinical foundations of her career to date.

A Professional Focus

Linda’s focus on implant and surgical dentistry is both professional and personal.

Professionally, it is the area she finds most demanding, most precise, and most rewarding. Surgical work requires a different level of planning, anatomical understanding, and clinical judgment. Surgical dentistry remains a field pursued by relatively few general dentists, and even fewer women. Linda pursued it because it is where her skills and her instincts align.

Personally, the story begins with her father. Long before she qualified as a dentist, he experienced significant tooth loss and underwent implant treatment at a relatively young age. She watched firsthand how profoundly missing and non-functioning teeth affect a person’s daily life, their confidence, and their overall wellbeing. When she later developed the skills to provide that care herself, being able to treat her own family was one of the most meaningful experiences of her career.

General dentistry remains an important part of what Linda does at Glow Dental. Not every patient needs an implant or a complex restoration. Many need a thorough examination, a considered treatment plan, and care that is done properly from the start. For Linda, that foundation matters as much as the advanced work built on top of it.

Why This Practice Exists

Glow Dental opened in 2020 and was built from the ground up. Every decision about how the practice operates, how patients are cared for, and what standard of work leaves the clinic reflects Linda’s personal standards. This is not a franchise, and it is not a managed group. It is a practice shaped by one clinician’s commitment to doing dentistry properly, and she intends to keep it that way.
